Peter L. Hahn, professor of history and dean of arts and humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences, will speak at the final Buckeye Smart of 2016.
98在线福利网Hahn will discuss the origins, impact and consequences of the Japanese military attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Please join us for this timely discussion around the 75th anniversary of the attack.

About the Speaker
Peter L. Hahn is professor of history and dean of arts and humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University. An accomplished research scholar, he has published seven books on the history of American diplomacy in the Middle East, most recently Missions Accomplished? The United States and Iraq since World War I and Historical Dictionary of U.S.-Middle East Relations, as well as scores of articles, essays and reviews. Hahn has conducted research in the archives of the United States, Israel, Britain and France; delivered scholarly papers and invited lectures in 10 countries; consulted with policymakers in the U.S. departments of State, Defense and Justice; and given interviews to the media on five continents. He has taught U.S. foreign policy history to thousands of students, and, in 2012, he co-led an undergraduate study abroad program that visited five battlefields of World War II. From 2002 to 2015, he served as executive director of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, a professional society of some 1,500 members in 44 countries.
As dean of arts and humanities, Hahn administers an academic division of 21 departments ranging from English to dance and 12 research centers focused on such topics as religion and film studies. Hahn’s division embraces some 450 faculty and 10,000 students.
Hahn earned his BA summa cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University and his MA and PhD at Vanderbilt University, where he defended his dissertation with distinction. Hahn won the 1998 Stuart L. Bernath Lecture Prize for excellence in teaching and scholarship, and in 1995 he held a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship in Jerusalem.
